Company Reviews

PPP Coffee, formerly known as Papa Palheta, is a leading specialty coffee boutique, specialising in sourcing, roasting and serving specialty coffee. Established in 2009 as a pioneer of specialty coffee in Singapore, our mission is to inspire and connect people through coffee, fostering a sense of belonging across communities.

In 2019, we rebranded ourselves to PPP Coffee, and founded the PPP Coffee store.

Designed to provide a multi-sensory coffee retail experience for the community , the PPP Coffee store also serves as an employee-store modelled after the loyalty co-op for F&Bs, where profits are shared with employees across the group, regardless of rank, positions, roles or responsibilities.

PPP Coffee also operates Chye Seng Huat Hardware in Singapore, and PULP in Malaysia.

Okay for a start, but growth is slow
Pros: You learn a ton about specialty coffee and different brewing methods here. The team is cool, and for Barista roles, the onsite shifts are usually pretty consistent. It's a good place to get your feet wet in the coffee industry in Singapore.
Cons: Career growth feels really slow for Baristas. There aren't many clear paths to move up to management or even into roasting roles. It can feel like a dead end if you're looking for more than just a Barista job.
Advice to Management: Create clearer pathways for career advancement for Baristas. Offer training for lead Barista or assistant manager positions to keep good people from leaving the small coffee chain.

Okay Pay for Baristas, Good for Experience
Pros: You get good staff discounts on beans and drinks, which is a nice perk if you love coffee. It's solid for anyone just starting out in the coffee shop industry here.
Cons: The pay for a barista isn't great, especially for the cost of living in Singapore. Don't expect huge raises or fancy benefits beyond the basics.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the hourly wages for baristas and consider offering more robust health benefits. It would help attract and retain talent in this competitive market.

Work-Life Balance is a Struggle at PPP Coffee
Pros: I really liked my colleagues on the roasting team. You get deep into the specialty coffee industry here, which is great. It's a pretty stable, onsite role in Brooklyn, NY.
Cons: As a Coffee Roaster, the hours are tough, especially in the busy season for coffee production. Forget 40-hour weeks; you're often pushing 50+ hours. Work flexibility just isn't really there for this type of role.
Advice to Management: Please consider staffing up more, especially for the production team. It would really boost morale and improve work-life balance for your Coffee Roasters.
