Decent place for Data Engineering, culture needs work

I was a Data Engineer here for a couple years, working remotely. The actual work, building ETL pipelines and cloud infrastructure, was pretty engaging. However, the company culture sometimes felt a bit disconnected, especially for remote employees like me.

Pros

I learned a ton about modern data analytics tools here as a Data Engineer. Team members are genuinely helpful, especially when you're tackling complex big data problems. The WFH setup is solid; you get your equipment quickly and it just works.

Cons

Company culture here is a bit cliquey in some departments, which isn't great. Remote teams sometimes feel like an afterthought for company events and recognition. Communication from leadership could be clearer about overall company direction.

Advice to Management

Focus more on integrating remote employees into the broader company culture. Regular, inclusive virtual events or better support for local meetups would really help. Improve transparent communication across all levels of this mid-sized company.

Decent projects, but career path is hazy
Pros: You get to work on various big data projects, which is great for building your tech skills as a Data Engineer. There's good exposure to modern cloud platforms and building ETL pipelines. The team is collaborative, especially for remote workers.
Cons: Career growth here feels pretty undefined. There's no clear path for promotions or skill development for data engineering roles. It's hard to move up without advocating really hard for yourself. Compensation could be more competitive, too.
Advice to Management: Create a clearer career ladder for data engineering roles. Invest in structured training and mentorship programs to help employees grow.
