Decent Work-Life for Teaching Roles
Pros: As an Associate Professor, I've found the flexible class schedule helpful. There's a lot of autonomy in managing your calendar, which is great for work-life balance in higher education. The breaks between semesters are a big plus, too.
Cons: The workload during the academic year, especially grading periods, can be intense. It's tough to truly disconnect when you have a lot of administrative tasks. Don't expect a lot of support staff to lighten the load.
Advice to Management: Consider investing in more administrative support staff to alleviate the burden on teaching faculty. Streamline some of the internal processes to make them less time-consuming.

Administrative Assistant

Decent benefits, but salary lags private sector
Pros: The health insurance and retirement plans are pretty solid for the public education sector. You get a good chunk of PTO too, which is nice. It's one of the best parts of working for a government entity.
Cons: Honestly, the pay for Administrative Assistant roles isn't great, especially compared to private companies in the Austin area. Raises are usually just cost-of-living adjustments, so it's tough to get ahead. They really need to bump up the base salaries.
Advice to Management: Take a serious look at the salary structure for support staff. It's hard to attract and keep good people when the pay is so far below market rates in Austin, TX.

Operations Coordinator

Leadership is hit or miss here
Pros: My direct supervisor was pretty good, always clear with tasks for us Operations Coordinator roles. We had decent job security in this public sector industry, which is a plus.
Cons: Upper management feels really disconnected from daily operations. It's tough to get clear decisions or feel supported when issues come up. The leadership team often seems out of touch with what we do onsite.
Advice to Management: Try to be more present and responsive to employee concerns. Listen to frontline staff to understand the real challenges. Improve communication across all levels.
