Decent balance for an academic setting
Pros: Often, you can stick to a 40-hour week. My PI was generally good about not pushing late nights for lab work. This is decent for science roles in a big academic institution, especially for onsite positions in Dallas, TX.
Cons: Sometimes you're stuck waiting for experiments to finish, making your day longer than planned. It's hard to avoid in medical research and the occasional weekend check-ins are expected. Work-life balance can really depend on your specific lab and supervisor.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize expectations across labs for Research Assistants. This would help with work-life balance for everyone and reduce burnout.

Clinical Research Coordinator

UTSW is pretty stable for healthcare jobs
Pros: Job security here is generally solid. As a Clinical Research Coordinator at this big institution, I rarely worried about my position. Healthcare roles, especially at an academic medical center, tend to be steady.
Cons: Still, some projects are totally grant-funded. That can make job security feel a bit shaky if your grant isn't renewed. Also, departments in the Dallas, TX campus can have different structures affecting stability.
Advice to Management: Communicate more clearly about grant statuses and potential impacts on roles. It would help ease employee anxiety when projects are nearing their end.
