Remote work is good, but boundaries are tough.
Pros: I loved the remote setup; it was a huge plus for my work-life balance. As an Instructor, I could deliver digital skills training from home, which saved a lot of commute time. The initial flexibility for scheduling was pretty decent.
Cons: The "flexibility" often meant being available for student support outside fixed class hours. It's tough to truly disconnect sometimes in bootcamp education. There's not much room to deviate from the set curriculum, so creativity as an Instructor is limited.
Advice to Management: Management should clarify expectations around instructor availability beyond scheduled class times. Better resources for managing student expectations would help prevent burnout for those of us in education roles.

Hybrid Setup Works Okay for Instructors
Pros: The hybrid work option is a solid perk. As an Instructor in the edtech industry, it's nice to have some days remote. You don't always have to be in the Toronto office, which helps with commutes.
Cons: But there are mandatory in-office days for Instructors, even when it feels unnecessary. Work flexibility here isn't always consistent, sometimes schedules change last minute. It's tough when you're expected onsite but your tasks could easily be done remotely.
Advice to Management: Give Instructors more autonomy over their WFH days, especially when classes aren't running. Clearer guidelines on hybrid work would help.
