Upper management lacks clear vision
Pros: I've enjoyed working with my fellow Software Engineers in the Tokyo office; the team dynamics are solid. There's good job security here, which is a big plus in the big tech industry.
Cons: Upper leadership often changes project direction suddenly, which is tough on engineering teams. It's hard to get clear communication on long-term strategy, and consistent feedback for individual contributors is rare.
Advice to Management: Senior leadership needs to communicate strategic goals more clearly and consistently across all engineering teams. Empower team leads with more decision-making authority.

Culture is good but has some old habits
Pros: I've been working as a Software Engineer here for a while. The teams are really supportive, especially for new hires in the Tokyo office. There's a decent sense of community, and people genuinely help each other out in software development.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit traditional, especially for a tech industry company. It's not very flexible with the hybrid model, feels more like onsite often. Sometimes good ideas don't get through management quickly.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really embrace modern work flexibility and empower teams more. Listen to the younger staff and adapt to what the tech industry expects.

Decent Flexibility for Engineers, But Could Improve
Pros: I really liked the hybrid work model here. As a Software Engineer, I could choose days to be in the Tokyo office, which helped balance personal life. They're pretty understanding if you need to adjust your schedule for appointments.
Cons: Sometimes the flexibility feels a bit one-sided. Getting approval for fully remote work as a developer can be tough, even for individual contributor roles. There's also not much wiggle room if you need major changes to your work arrangement.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more fully remote options for senior Software Engineer roles. It would help retain talent in this competitive tech industry.
