A training and development officer in the food and beverage (F&B) industry is responsible for improving staff performance, ensuring service excellence, and maintaining high standards of food safety and hospitality. This role focuses on developing the skills and knowledge of employees working in restaurants, hotels, catering services, or other F&B establishments.

Job Description

The training and development officer designs, implements, and evaluates training programs for kitchen staff, servers, bartenders, supervisors, and managers. The role ensures that employees understand company standards, customer service expectations, health and safety regulations, and operational procedures. The officer also monitors training effectiveness and works closely with management to align staff development with business goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify training needs across different departments (kitchen, service, bar, etc.)
  • Develop and deliver training programs on food handling, hygiene, customer service, and product knowledge
  • Conduct orientation programs for new employees
  • Train staff on standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and company policies
  • Evaluate training outcomes and provide feedback to improve performance
  • Maintain training records and prepare progress reports for management
  • Coordinate with external trainers or certification bodies (e.g., food safety authorities)
  • Support management in creating career development plans and succession programs
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and service excellence

Qualifications And Skills

  • Bachelors degree in hospitality management, human resources, or a related field
  • Experience in training or supervisory roles within the food and beverage industry
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create engaging training materials and deliver both practical and theoretical sessions
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and training software is an advantage
