Great for careers, demanding on time.
Pros: As an Associate Consultant at this big consulting firm, your job security feels pretty solid if you're hitting your targets. They invest a lot in training for management consulting careers, which is a huge plus. It's tough to get fired unless you really mess up or don't fit the culture.
Cons: The 'up or out' culture means constant performance pressure; you can't just cruise here. While not strictly 'job insecurity,' you really need to prove yourself for advancement in strategic consulting projects. Work-life balance can definitely suffer in the Boston office due to the demands.
Advice to Management: Maybe lighten up a bit on the constant performance reviews. It feels like you're always proving yourself, even after years of good work.

Solid culture, but expect the consulting grind
Pros: The best part is definitely the people. Everyone in the Boston office is sharp and collaborative, which makes working on client projects much better. There's a strong sense of teamwork, and as a management consultant, you get exposed to amazing learning opportunities.
Cons: The work-life balance here is tough, as you'd expect in top-tier strategy consulting. Long hours are the norm, and it can feel like a constant pressure cooker, even with hybrid work options. Sometimes the internal competition is a bit much.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to genuinely support work-life balance for consultants, beyond just offering hybrid work. Burnout is real, and it impacts retention. Acknowledge the demanding nature of client projects more openly.

Tough Hours, Some Flexibility for Client Work
Pros: There's some decent flexibility when you're between client projects, which is nice. As an Associate Consultant, I could often work from home on those days, which helped balance personal stuff. The firm does try to support a hybrid work model when possible.
Cons: But for active client projects, forget it. You're usually on-site with the client or at the Boston office until late. It's tough for work-life balance, and there's not much flexibility for daily schedules in management consulting.
Advice to Management: Try to implement more consistent work-from-home options even during active client projects, where feasible. This would really help improve the work-life balance for those in demanding consulting roles.
