Our team’s mission is a bold one – to create technology that can run the world’s banks according to the best designs and software practices of the modern age. In doing so, we will properly and permanently rid the world’s banks of the problems generated by poor technology running on legacy infrastructure.

Our solution to this is Vault Core: a complete core banking platform that is capable of being configured easily to suit the needs of any bank. We have built Vault Core from the ground up as a cloud-native, microservices and API-based platform. Thought Machine has a deep culture of engineering excellence, and our approach has engendered a seismic shift in the banking industry.

Thought Machine is looking for highly talented individuals to help grow the company and achieve our ambitious goal. We pride ourselves on having an excellent internal culture, where we strive hard to create the best possible working environment; a healthy mix of great technical work, fast pace, a supportive atmosphere, and of course our irreverent sense of fun.

Good Flexibility for a Growing Fintech
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid work model. As a Software Engineer, I get 2-3 WFH days a week, which really helps my schedule. The London office is great when you do go in, and it's nice to collaborate on our core banking platform.
Cons: While there's flexibility, it's pretty structured. You can't just pick any day to be remote, it's set. Sometimes I wish there was more freedom for technical roles to work fully remote, even if I'm in London.
Advice to Management: Consider offering more flexible remote options for experienced technical roles. Trust your people to get the job done wherever they are.

Fast-paced but job security is a worry
Pros: You get to work with some really smart people on a cutting-edge core banking platform. Great for a Software Engineer looking to pick up new skills. The London office had a good buzz, and the perks were decent.
Cons: Job security has been a concern for a while, especially with recent layoffs across the fintech industry. It's a fast-moving startup, so things change quick. Sometimes that means shifts in priorities without much heads-up, which feels unstable. The hybrid model for work can be a bit rigid too.
Advice to Management: Management needs to be more transparent about the company's direction and future plans. It would really help calm nerves about job security and help people focus. More communication on strategy would go a long way.

Leadership has a vision, but execution is tough
Pros: You're building a cutting-edge core banking platform, which is genuinely exciting as a Software Engineer. There are a lot of smart people here, and the initial vision from the founders is strong.
Cons: Leadership in the London office can feel a bit disconnected from day-to-day engineering challenges. Decisions often get re-evaluated, which really slows down progress on our cloud-native banking system. Middle management sometimes struggles for clear direction.
Advice to Management: Improve communication across departments and empower team leads more. Try to stick to decisions once they're made to avoid rework.
