Solid Niche Media Job, Decent Stability
Pros: I've felt pretty secure here, especially compared to other places in digital journalism. As a reporter, it's nice to know there's a dedicated audience for higher education news, which helps with job stability. The remote work setup is also a big plus.
Cons: It's not a huge company, so resources can feel tight sometimes. You don't have the same safety net as a massive corporation, and the media industry always has its ups and downs.
Advice to Management: Keep investing in stable revenue streams to ensure long-term security. More opportunities for internal advancement would also be great.

Decent place for remote work in higher education
Pros: As an Associate Editor, I really appreciate the remote work flexibility. It's easy to manage my personal life with the WFH setup, which is a huge plus. My daily tasks are predictable, and I rarely work over 40 hours a week, which is great for work-life balance in the higher education news sector.
Cons: Sometimes deadlines can be a bit tight, especially around big news cycles. There's not always a ton of extra help when things get intense. It can feel like you're just keeping your head above water during those peak times.
Advice to Management: Try to staff up a bit more for peak seasons or find ways to better distribute the workload. It would help prevent burnout for core team members.

Solid WFH for digital publishing roles
Pros: The biggest plus is the fully remote setup. As a Staff Writer, I could pretty much manage my own day for the most part. This work arrangement really helped with my work-life balance and it's great for anyone in higher education news who needs that flexibility.
Cons: While it's flexible, there are still fixed meetings that can interrupt your flow. Sometimes it feels like you're expected to be 'on' for long hours, even with the flexibility. It can also be a bit isolating sometimes working from home.
Advice to Management: Keep the remote flexibility, it's a huge perk. Maybe look into better ways to foster team connection and set clearer boundaries around 'on' hours for remote employees.
