Stable, but demanding public accounting job
Pros: Job security is solid here. As a Senior Auditor, I never really worried about layoffs, even during some market wobbles. Being part of a big corporate structure like KPMG means you're generally safe, which is a big plus in the financial services industry.
Cons: The trade-off for that security is often intense work. Long hours are expected, especially during peak audit season, making work-life balance tough. It's hard to relax when there's always so much on your plate for audit roles.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to better manage workload during busy seasons. Staff burnout is a real concern in public accounting, and it affects morale.

Hybrid Work is Fine, If You're Not in Audit
Pros: There's a hybrid model, which is a start. You can sometimes work from home a couple days a week. It’s pretty good for some internal or back-office roles; the Singapore office tech setup for remote work is decent too.
Cons: As a Senior Associate in public accounting, actual flexibility is tough. Client deadlines mean you're often expected onsite. The hybrid model doesn't always apply during busy season, and face time is still a big deal here.
Advice to Management: Really look at how the hybrid model impacts client-facing audit teams. More autonomy and less emphasis on face time would help. Trust your people to get the work done from anywhere.

Busy Season is Real, Team Helps Out
Pros: The team culture in the Singapore office is generally solid, especially when things get tough. I've found some decent support and camaraderie from colleagues, which helps during busy season. There's also some flexibility to work hybrid, which is a nice option for audit roles.
Cons: Work-life balance as an Audit Associate is seriously challenging, especially in public accounting. You're looking at 60-70 hour weeks during peak periods, with little personal time. Client deadlines often dictate everything; it's hard to plan much else.
Advice to Management: Try to implement more realistic workloads and better resource planning for audit roles. It would significantly improve employee well-being and retention.
