Decent Work-Life for Satellite Engineering Roles
Pros: As a Satellite Operations Engineer, I've had decent work-life balance here. The hybrid work model helps a lot, letting me split time between home and the McLean, VA office. PTO is pretty standard and they usually approve it without much fuss, which is good.
Cons: Sometimes, especially during critical launches or system upgrades in satellite communications, you'll put in longer hours. It's not constant, but when it hits, it's intense. Some teams seem to struggle more with project deadlines than others.
Advice to Management: Keep an eye on project loads for certain engineering teams. Some are clearly overworked, and it impacts their ability to maintain a good work-life blend.

Solid Place for Satellite Communications Pros
Pros: I've really liked the work on challenging satellite communications projects. As a Software Engineer, the tech stack is interesting, and the hybrid work model gives me good flexibility in the McLean, VA office.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit corporate and slow to change. Sometimes innovation feels stifled, and there's not always a clear path for junior engineers to grow quickly here.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more bottom-up innovation and create clearer career growth paths for younger talent. Modernize some of the office policies to keep up with the tech industry.

Pay's Just Okay, Benefits Are Standard
Pros: The 401k match is pretty solid, that's a definite plus here. Healthcare plans are decent, covering most of what you'd expect. The tuition reimbursement program is also a nice perk for employees.
Cons: Base salary for a Software Engineer felt a bit low, around $90k, honestly, compared to other tech companies in the Chandler, AZ area. Annual bonuses aren't guaranteed and usually pretty small, often less than 5% of base pay. Compensation doesn't really keep up with market rates for this industry.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into salary bands and make them more competitive. Investing more in employee compensation would boost morale and retention, especially for roles like Software Engineer in this market.
