Pros: You get to work with some really smart people and on cutting-edge tech projects. There's a ton of internal mobility if you want to switch teams or try different product areas, which is great for exploration. As a Software Engineer, I always felt like I was growing technically.
Cons: Career growth, especially promotions to Staff Engineer, can be incredibly slow and competitive here. It often feels like you're stuck at a certain level for years, even with strong performance. Performance review cycles can also feel a bit opaque, making it tough to know what exactly you need to do for advancement.
Advice to Management: Clarify the criteria for promotions, especially for mid-level Software Engineer roles. Try to streamline the advancement process a bit more and provide clearer pathways for growth beyond just switching teams. Transparency in performance reviews would really help too.
