Project Engineer

Work-life balance is okay, but it really varies
Pros: I liked the flexibility for hybrid work when projects weren't intense. You could mostly stick to a 40-hour week. The benefits package for a corporate environment is pretty solid too, with decent PTO.
Cons: As a Project Engineer, crunch times for big logistics automation projects mean long hours. Sometimes I felt like I was always on call, even during a hybrid work setup. There's also a lot of travel involved for commissioning.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage workloads for Project Engineers during peak project phases. Maybe hire more staff or implement clearer boundaries for after-hours work. Burnout is a real issue.

Career Growth is Tough at Vanderlande
Pros: The training programs are actually pretty solid if you can get into them. I've definitely learned a lot about complex material handling systems. Plus, job security feels really stable in this industry.
Cons: The biggest issue is the lack of clear promotion paths for technical roles like Software Engineer. It's hard to see what you need to do to get to the next level in the Marietta, GA office. You often just do similar tasks for a long time.
Advice to Management: Make career paths clearer for technical roles. Invest more in promoting from within and showing employees how to get to the next level instead of just relying on external hires.

Pay is decent, but benefits could improve.
Pros: The base salary as a Project Engineer here is pretty solid, especially for the Marietta, GA office. I've seen good annual raises, which helps with cost of living. There's a decent 401k match too.
Cons: Health insurance plans aren't great; high deductibles make them tough to use. The bonus structure for this global company feels really opaque. I wish they offered better wellness programs or WFH stipends.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the health insurance options and make the bonus structure more transparent. Investing in better benefits would really help retain talent.
