Hybrid Model is Decent, but Hours Can Vary
Pros: The flexibility is pretty good with the hybrid work model, especially as a Software Engineer. You can usually shift your hours around. The Austin, TX office also has a pretty chill vibe when you are in.
Cons: Work-life balance can get tough here. Project deadlines often mean putting in more than 40 hours for software development releases. It's not a strict 9-5 for engineering roles, so be ready for that.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scopes better so Software Engineers aren't constantly crunching. Protect engineers' time more consistently.

Solid for Core Roles, Less So for New Projects
Pros: As a Software Engineer, my role felt pretty secure. The tech industry can be volatile, but X Star has a decent history. There weren't mass layoffs in the San Francisco office during my time.
Cons: Job security isn't great for newer initiatives or experimental teams. Projects get cut often, and it leaves people scrambling. Career growth isn't always clear if your team gets reorganized.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about project longevity and how reorgs impact people's long-term careers. Give teams better runway and communication.

Leadership is mixed, some good, some not
Pros: My direct manager in the San Francisco office was really solid. They'd always back me up as a Software Engineer. There's good support for learning new tech skills too.
Cons: Upper leadership at this big tech company can be a real head-scratcher. Decisions feel rushed and not always logical for agile development teams. Transparency is often missing, which makes things tough for project management.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the teams on the ground, especially in engineering roles. More transparency from executive leadership would go a long way. Connect with what's actually happening in our San Francisco office.
