Great Place for Software Engineers to Grow in E-commerce
Pros: As a Software Engineer at Coupang, I've seen excellent career growth. There are plenty of opportunities to learn and tackle complex scaling problems in the e-commerce space. The teams are collaborative, making it a supportive environment to develop new skills and contribute significantly.
Cons: The fast-paced nature means occasional busy periods and longer hours, which can challenge work-life balance. Cross-team communication sometimes needs improvement to keep everyone aligned.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving cross-team communication channels, especially given the rapid growth and international teams, to ensure everyone is always on the same page. Also, consider initiatives to help manage workload spikes to better support work-life balance for engineers during critical periods.

Great for Growth in Fast-Paced E-commerce
Pros: Coupang is a really dynamic place to work, especially if you're a Software Engineer in the e-commerce industry. I've learned so much here, pushing my technical skills in a fast-paced environment. The teams are generally supportive, and there are lots of interesting engineering challenges to tackle with high impact on customers.
Cons: It can get pretty intense during peak times, so work-life balance can sometimes be a challenge. Also, with how quickly things move, cross-team communication sometimes needs a bit of a push, but it's improving.
Advice to Management: Continue to focus on improving cross-team communication channels and explore strategies to help teams manage workload more consistently during peak periods to support better work-life balance for Software Engineers.

Okay flexibility but long hours sometimes
Pros: I liked the hybrid model, getting a couple of WFH days helped. For tech roles, the ability to collaborate directly in the Seattle office was good. The compensation package for a big tech company was solid.
Cons: The 'flexibility' often meant working late to meet deadlines, especially during peak e-commerce seasons. There's a lot of pressure, and I found myself putting in 50+ hour weeks often. It's not a true 9-to-5, even with the hybrid setup.
Advice to Management: Management should really try to enforce better boundaries around working hours, even with the hybrid model. True work-life balance needs to be prioritized over just hitting aggressive e-commerce growth targets.
