Great Place for Stability and Learning in Hearing Tech
Pros: Sonova offers great stability and job security in the medical device industry. My colleagues are incredibly supportive, fostering a positive team environment. As a Software Engineer, I've had solid learning opportunities, especially working with cutting-edge hearing technology. The hybrid work model in Zurich is fantastic for my work-life balance.
Cons: Career progression can feel a bit slow sometimes; promotions require patience. Also, bureaucracy, common in a large global company, occasionally delays project approvals.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining the promotion path to recognize and reward high-performing individuals more swiftly. Improving communication around these processes would also be beneficial.

Solid Place to Grow in Medical Tech
Pros: I really appreciate the collaborative environment here at Sonova Group. My team, fellow Software Engineers, is super supportive, and there are always opportunities to learn new tech in the medical technology space. The hybrid work model is a huge plus, giving me flexibility. It's a very stable company, which is great for job security, and the benefits package is pretty comprehensive. Leadership generally encourages innovation and personal development within our projects.
Cons: While career growth is definitely possible, the promotion process can feel a bit slow sometimes compared to smaller tech companies. It's a large global corporation, so there's a bit of bureaucracy and approval layers that can occasionally slow down project timelines. Communication between departments could also be smoother.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal approval processes and improving cross-departmental communication to accelerate project delivery and enhance overall efficiency. Also, reviewing career progression paths might help retain top talent.

Decent Work-Life Balance, Depends on Your Team
Pros: The hybrid work model is a huge plus; it lets me manage personal appointments easily. As a Product Specialist, I appreciate the ability to work from home a few days a week, which helps avoid the commute to the Aurora, IL office. There's also decent PTO, so taking vacation isn't usually an issue.
Cons: Sometimes, project deadlines in the hearing care industry can be really tight. This means long hours during peak times, and there's an unspoken expectation to be available after hours. It's not consistent, but it definitely impacts work-life balance occasionally, especially in a large corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Encourage managers to actively promote disconnecting after work hours. Better resource allocation during crunch times would also help.
