Hybrid is good, but full remote is tough
Pros: For a big defense company, BAE Systems offers decent hybrid work options. As a Software Engineer, I appreciate the flexible start and end times, especially on some government projects. It's nice not to be stuck in the Nashua, NH office every single day.
Cons: Full remote work is pretty rare here. You often need to be onsite for classified work or hardware integration. The level of flexibility really depends on your specific program and manager.
Advice to Management: Standardize remote work policies more across programs, especially for engineering roles that don't require daily onsite classified access or hardware interaction. Be clearer about expectations during the interview process.

Culture is okay, pretty standard for defense.
Pros: Working as a Software Engineer, the teams are usually pretty solid. There's a decent sense of camaraderie within individual project groups. The hybrid work model is also a big plus for work-life balance.
Cons: Overall company culture for a big defense contractor can feel a bit old-school and slow to change. It's sometimes tough to get new ideas through, especially for more innovative tech solutions. There's definitely a bureaucratic feel that slows things down.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more and embrace new technologies faster. Cut down on the red tape.

Solid culture for a big defense contractor
Pros: The people are generally good, and most teams have a supportive vibe. You'll find a lot of experienced folks willing to help out, which is great as a Software Engineer. There's good job security working on government contracts.
Cons: It's a very big corporate environment, so things move slow. Decision-making can be really bureaucratic and sometimes feels outdated. Innovation isn't always prioritized.
Advice to Management: Try to cut down on the red tape and empower teams more. Encourage new tech adoption across different programs. Listen to feedback from the engineers on process improvements.
