Decent environment for a corporate law firm
Pros: People are generally supportive, especially in the London office. You learn a lot about the legal industry here, which is great for career growth. The hybrid work model is a nice perk for a big corporate firm.
Cons: Company culture can feel a bit old-school sometimes. There's definitely pressure around billable hours, which impacts work-life balance for legal professionals. It's a very hierarchical structure, not always great for new Legal Assistants trying to make an impact.
Advice to Management: Try to modernize the company culture a bit more. Encourage more open communication across all levels, especially for Legal Assistants and other junior staff. It would help with morale and innovation.

Decent balance for a corporate law firm
Pros: It's not terrible for a corporate law firm, especially for Paralegal roles. The hybrid work setup is a big plus; I was in the London office 3 days a week, which really helped my commute and flexibility. There are periods where the workload is genuinely manageable.
Cons: But when cases heat up, those 40-hour weeks go out the window, sometimes reaching 50-60 hours. Sometimes you're expected to be 'on' even after hours, which kills your personal time. The legal industry pace can be relentless.
Advice to Management: Managers should encourage their teams to truly disconnect outside of core hours. Set clearer expectations with clients about response times to protect employee personal time.

Hybrid work is okay for London legal roles
Pros: I appreciate the hybrid work option for the London office. It means I don't have to commute every single day. For an Associate Lawyer, that little bit of remote time really helps manage personal life around client demands. They're trying to offer some work-life balance.
Cons: While hybrid is there, it's often more 3-4 days in office than truly flexible for a law firm. The expectation for billable hours means you're still always on, even WFH. Sometimes getting approval for extra remote days can be tough.
Advice to Management: Try to genuinely support the hybrid work policy. Don't make it feel like WFH days are just for catching up on admin after being in the office. Trust your legal professionals more.
