Work-life balance is okay, but it's busy.
Pros: I appreciate the flexibility to work remote from home. That's a huge plus for personal appointments or family stuff. As a Software Engineer, I generally get decent equipment to do my job, and the teams are pretty supportive.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough when project deadlines hit. It's not uncommon to put in more than 40 hours a week, sometimes 50+. There's a lot of pressure to deliver quickly in this corporate software company environment.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scope better to avoid constant crunch times. Empower teams more to push back on unrealistic deadlines. This would greatly improve employee retention for engineering roles.

Career Growth is Okay, Not Amazing
Pros: I've definitely learned a lot about financial software development here. If you're proactive as a Software Engineer, you can pick up some good new skills. It's a stable company overall.
Cons: Career growth for mid-level developers isn't always clear-cut. You really need to advocate for yourself; promotions don't just happen. Formal training isn't heavily emphasized, so most learning is on the job.
Advice to Management: Clarify career paths and invest more in professional development for all engineering roles. A clearer promotion framework would really help your mid-level developers.

Hybrid model is okay, but could improve
Pros: They do offer a hybrid model, which is good. As a Software Engineer, I can work from home a couple of days a week, which really helps with commuting to the Slough office. The policy for remote work is clear, making planning easier.
Cons: However, it's not truly flexible; you're still expected in the office 3 days a week. There isn't much wiggle room for special circumstances, which can be tough. I wish they'd trust us more for full remote options.
Advice to Management: Consider allowing more flexibility beyond the 3-day office rule, especially for senior tech roles. Trust your employees more.
