Environmental Engineer

Work-life balance is okay, depends on your team.
Pros: The hybrid work model is a real plus, especially for us Environmental Engineers at the Rye Brook, NY office. It makes managing personal appointments much easier. There's good flexibility if your manager supports it, which helps a lot with overall work-life balance.
Cons: Peak project times, especially in wastewater solutions or infrastructure projects, can mean long weeks. It's tough to consistently stick to 40 hours when deadlines hit. This can make fully disconnecting a real challenge for many.
Advice to Management: Try to ensure workload distribution is more even across teams, especially during critical water technology projects. Encourage managers to truly support the hybrid work model and help employees disconnect.

Field Service Engineer

Okay Flexibility for a Field Role
Pros: I liked that I could often manage my own schedule for site visits in the water infrastructure sector. Remote work was sometimes an option for planning and reporting tasks, which was great.
Cons: It was tough when emergencies popped up, you had to drop everything, no real flexibility there. As a Field Service Engineer, on-call weekends could be brutal and there wasn't much room to adjust those shifts.
Advice to Management: Try to offer more predictable schedules for field teams. Maybe a rotating on-call system that's more fair, or better compensation for those tough weekends.

Okay Hybrid Setup, Room for Improvement
Pros: The hybrid work model is a solid perk for many office-based engineering roles in the Charlotte office. Having a couple of WFH days each week really helps manage personal life. It's a nice change from being fully onsite.
Cons: Work flexibility really depends on your specific team and manager, which isn't ideal. For those involved in field projects or wastewater infrastructure maintenance, WFH options are almost non-existent. It's not a consistent experience across the board.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize hybrid or remote work policies more, especially for non-field roles. It would help a lot with employee morale and retention across all water technology divisions.
