Boeing's Pay is Decent, Benefits are Solid
Pros: The benefits package is really strong, which is great for a corporate giant like Boeing. Things like healthcare, vacation, and retirement plans are quite generous. It's a solid deal, especially if you're looking for stability in the aerospace industry.
Cons: Base salary for Software Engineer roles isn't always top-tier, especially when you compare it to big tech. Raises can be small, so salary growth can feel slow. The bonus structure isn't super transparent either.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate salary bands for engineering roles to be more competitive, especially for experienced talent. Make the bonus system clearer and more rewarding.

Hybrid Model is Decent, But Onsite Dominates
Pros: Some engineering teams do offer a hybrid work model, which is nice. As a Mechanical Engineer, I get to WFH a couple days a week. It really helps with my commute to the Everett, WA office.
Cons: Actual work flexibility is pretty limited for most aerospace roles, though. Many critical design and test engineering functions are strictly onsite. It feels like corporate still pushes for everyone to be in the office, even when it's not always needed.
Advice to Management: Upper management needs to trust teams more with hybrid options. Re-evaluate which roles truly require 5 days onsite for our defense and commercial aviation projects. More flexibility would boost morale.

Solid Benefits, Pay is Okay for Engineers
Pros: As an Aerospace Engineer in the Seattle, WA office, the pay is pretty competitive for the defense industry. Medical benefits are really solid, good dental and vision. The 401k match is decent too, which helps for retirement planning.
Cons: Annual raises can be pretty small; it's tough to get a big bump without moving into management. Vacation time accrual feels slow compared to other big corporate firms. Stock options aren't really a thing for most individual contributors.
Advice to Management: Consider making annual raises more impactful for individual contributors to retain talent. Also, look at improving the vacation accrual rate earlier in an employee's tenure to be more competitive.
