Leadership has its moments, good and bad
Pros: Some managers really get it and empower their teams, which is great for career growth here. The hybrid work model in the San Jose office is pretty solid too, offering good flexibility.
Cons: But upper leadership can feel pretty far removed from daily Software Engineer issues. Decisions often just appear without much explanation. There's a real need for more transparency from the top.
Advice to Management: Upper management needs to improve how they communicate decisions and involve individual contributors. Connecting more with teams would help a lot.

Layoffs hit hard, but interesting engineering work
Pros: The projects in platform development are genuinely interesting for a Software Engineer. You get to work on products used by millions, which is cool. Compensation and benefits are generally pretty solid for big tech in San Jose, CA.
Cons: Job security is a real concern lately; the recent layoffs were unsettling for everyone. It's tough to focus when you're wondering if your team is next. Growth for senior engineering roles can feel slow too.
Advice to Management: You really need to communicate better about future plans. The constant layoff news makes it hard for the remaining employees to feel secure and motivated. Invest in retaining key talent and improving career growth paths for those dedicated to the platform.

Solid Base Pay, But Benefits Could Improve
Pros: The base salary for a Software Engineer here is pretty competitive, especially within the streaming media industry. I also liked the stock options, which can add a good chunk to your total compensation if the company does well. They also offer a decent 401k match, which is a plus.
Cons: However, the health insurance options aren't great; the deductibles feel really high. PTO isn't as generous as I've seen at other big tech companies in Silicon Valley. It's tough to take time off without feeling like you're falling behind. The annual bonus wasn't always reliable either, which was a bit of a letdown.
Advice to Management: Management should seriously look at improving the overall benefits package. Lower deductibles on health insurance and more competitive PTO would make a huge difference in attracting and retaining talent, especially for technical roles like Software Engineers.
