The MakeOS Mission

The world’s best productions, the ones people talk about, share, and remember, are powered by incredible producers. And almost no software. Behind the scenes, it’s still spreadsheets, emails, and duct-taped workflows holding together projects worth millions.

We’re building MakeOS to change that.

MakeOS is the operating system for modern production. A single system that brings together budgets, vendors, approvals, and payments in real time, creating a true source of truth for how production actually runs. When you remove the chaos, producers get their time and headspace back to focus on the craft, the decisions, and the moments that make something great. We’re not here to replace the people who make culture. We exist to make it better.

About The Team

We’re a small, high-trust, VC-backed team where people take real ownership. We move quickly, stay close to decisions, and keep things simple with no unnecessary layers, no excess process. The bar is high, the feedback is direct, and the work is real. You’ll be working alongside people who care deeply about what they build and how they build it.

About The Role

At MakeOS, the product is the business.

We are turning the chaotic workflows of modern production into a single source of truth. We need an engineer who views technology as a tool to solve business problems, not just a list of frameworks to master. You will own features end-to-end across our entire stack. We don't do perfectly groomed Jira tickets here. You will be given rough goals and the autonomy to figure it out. We are looking for an "owner" who asks why before how, with the resourcefulness to bend reality to get things shipped.

What You’ll Do:
  • Architect, build, and ship complete features across our entire stack.
  • Translate high-level, ambiguous business goals into technical execution without needing every edge case perfectly defined for you.
  • Identify bottlenecks, propose solutions, and write the code to fix them rather than simply reporting roadblocks.
  • Step in wherever the team needs you, whether it’s tweaking a CSS component, optimizing a slow SQL query, or writing a missing piece of documentation.

Our Tech Stack:
  • Python FastAPI backend
  • React / MUI frontend
  • PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker

What We’re Looking For
  • Solid software engineering experience or education.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, SQL.
  • High curiosity, seeking the broader business context before coding while also learning new concepts rapidly.
  • Ownership of your outcomes, caring more about the business impact and user experience than simply checking off requirements.
  • Nice to have: experience in Fintech, payments, or complex workflow/ERP software.

What are we offering?The Tangibles
  • $80,000 - $120,000 CAD annual salary based on experience
  • PTO and company-paid holidays
  • Remote-first with occasional in-person meetings
  • Comprehensive Health benefits
  • Mac laptop provided
  • Phone, Internet + Software Stipend
  • $500 one time at home work space stipend

Why this role is different? The Intangibles
  • Early stage, high impact
  • Mentorship opportunities with code reviews and regular 1:1s with senior engineers
  • Growth paths from quality focus to feature implementation
  • Collaborative environment

Who Thrives Here

This team isn’t for everyone. The people who do well here tend to recognize themselves in a few of these:

  • You take ownership without waiting to be told what to do
  • You care about the quality of your work, even when no one is watching
  • You can give and receive direct, honest and constructive feedback
  • You like being close to the work, not managing from a distance
  • You move quickly and make decisions without perfect information
  • You’re always learning, but don’t get stuck in theory
  • You show up for the team, but your identity isn’t defined by your job

You may find this environment challenging if you prefer a lot of structure, consensus-driven decisions, or clearly defined lanes.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging

MakeOS is an equal opportunity employer and we’re committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on ethnicity, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, provincial, or local laws. The MakeOS Principles

At the core we are here to make production easier.

1. Relentless Focus

We prioritize the few things that matter most.

Focus allows us to move faster, build deeper, and deliver meaningful progress rather than spreading effort across competing priorities.

2. Product-Level Craft

Great technology is built through disciplined attention to detail.

From architecture to interface, we pursue a standard of craft that makes the product reliable, intuitive, and built to last.

3. End-to-End Ownership

The best products emerge when the people building them take full responsibility for the outcome.

Teams own problems from concept through execution, ensuring alignment between design, engineering, and delivery.

4. Confidential by Default

Trust is built through disciplined stewardship of information.

We operate with confidentiality around our product, roadmap, and partners so teams can move quickly and customers can trust our systems.

5. User Experience Drives Everything

Technology exists to serve the user.

We design and build with the real workflows, pressures, and decisions of our users in mind, ensuring the product solves meaningful problems in the real world.
