About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer specializing in Machine Learning (ML) to join our team at White Collar Factory. This pivotal role involves shaping the technical landscape of ML and AI within the organization, driving innovation, and leading the development and implementation of advanced ML/AI solutions. The successful candidate will own and influence the ML/AI technical strategy across UK use cases, collaborating with multiple teams to ensure alignment with business objectives and enterprise platform capabilities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex ML/AI challenges, develop industry-leading practices, and contribute to the organization’s digital transformation journey. The role is based in our London office with a hybrid working model, providing flexibility to balance on-site collaboration and remote work.
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in Python and ML engineering
- Extensive experience designing and scaling low-latency, customer-facing ML/AI architectures
- Strong knowledge of ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn
- Experience with Gen AI/Agentic frameworks including LangGraph, LangChain, VectorDBs, and RAG
- Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Understanding of responsible AI practices, including guardrails, hallucination mitigation, and output quality management
- Proven track record leading ML/AI initiatives across multiple teams
- Experience with MLOps, including CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and deployment pipelines
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate ML/AI concepts for diverse audiences
- Experience in developing and advocating for ML/AI strategies and technical standards
- Knowledge of full ML/AI lifecycle, including model serving, data pipelines, and Gen AI systems
- Experience with communities of practice or technical forums in ML/AI
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the ML/AI technical strategy for UK use cases, influencing organizational direction
- Lead and coordinate ML engineering efforts across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with business goals and enterprise platform capabilities
- Provide technical consultancy on architectural decisions, solution design, and effective use of ML/AI platforms
- Identify emerging ML/AI patterns, define best practices, and evangelize reusable approaches to enhance delivery
- Drive MLOps standards, including CI/CD pipelines, model monitoring, automated testing, and deployment practices
- Collaborate with enterprise platform and data science teams to enhance platform capabilities and deliver use cases
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including senior leadership, product owners, and external partners
- Represent Capital One in external ML/AI forums and industry discussions
- Develop strategies for managing technical debt within ML/AI systems
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the organization at the forefront of ML/AI innovation
- Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence
