Junior Software Engineer

Okay for starters, but career growth stalls
Pros: The initial ramp-up for a Junior Software Engineer is pretty solid. I learned a ton about software development and our internal systems. They offer good foundational training and you get to work with some smart people in a hybrid model.
Cons: Career growth here is a real struggle for tech roles. It feels like there aren't many clear paths to advance past a certain point. Promotions are slow, and getting new responsibilities or moving up in the Austin, TX office is tough. It's hard to see how to develop new coding skills once you master the basics.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career ladders, especially for software development roles. Invest more in ongoing technical training and mentorship programs to keep people engaged and growing.

Data Analyst

Remote options are okay, but not truly flexible.
Pros: I can work remote from my home office, which is a huge plus for my Data Analyst role. They've been pretty solid with WFH options for most tech roles since the pandemic. It really helps avoid the daily commute.
Cons: The "flexibility" mainly means remote work, not flexible hours. You're still pretty locked into a 9-to-5 schedule. It's not ideal if you need to adjust for personal appointments; you'll often burn PTO. For some backend software development projects, this rigid schedule can be a real drag on creativity.
Advice to Management: Clearly define what "work flexibility" actually means to employees. Consider offering more asynchronous options for remote data analytics teams instead of fixed 9-5 hours. Trust your people to manage their time.
