Decent WLB for a big corporate telco
Pros: The hybrid model is a real plus, letting me work from home a couple of days a week. It definitely helps avoid the daily commute to the Toronto office. For a big corporate environment like this, the flexibility for a Software Developer is actually pretty decent on my team.
Cons: Project deadlines can get really intense, leading to some 50+ hour weeks, especially around major telecommunications rollouts. It feels like some teams have it way worse than others, so it's a bit of a lottery. Sometimes you just can't disconnect after hours.
Advice to Management: Try to even out the workload across teams and projects. Managers should empower their Software Developers more to say no to unreasonable deadlines to protect their work-life balance.

Leadership is mostly fine, some bumps
Pros: My direct manager in the Toronto office is pretty solid; they really get the technical challenges for a Software Engineer. We also have a decent hybrid work model that direct leadership supports, which is nice for work-life balance.
Cons: Upper leadership in this big corporate environment often feels disconnected from daily project work. Decisions on new network infrastructure initiatives don't always make sense to us on the ground, and it's tough to get clear answers sometimes. It can be frustrating as a Software Engineer when priorities shift suddenly.
Advice to Management: Listen more to front-line Software Engineers; their feedback on project feasibility and timelines is crucial. Improve transparency on career progression within the big corporate structure, especially in the telecom industry.

Decent place, but culture needs a refresh
Pros: The stability is a big plus. As a Network Engineer, you're always busy maintaining network infrastructure. The pay and benefits are quite solid for the telecommunications industry. Some teams in the Toronto office have really great people.
Cons: The corporate culture can be very hierarchical. Innovation sometimes gets lost in layers of approval. Work-life balance for some roles isn't always great, leading to longer hours. There's not much flexibility for remote work, it's mostly onsite.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more. Less bureaucracy would really help. Think about modernizing the corporate culture and offering more work flexibility, especially for technical roles.
