Leadership has some real ups and downs.
Pros: My direct manager was pretty solid. They offered good support for my daily tasks. Team leads are generally skilled, especially in access control systems development. The hybrid work model is a nice perk too.
Cons: Upper management often feels disconnected from the ground level. Their vision for new identity management products isn't always clear. This makes it tough for engineering teams to plan. Decisions can also be really slow here because it's such a big corporate company.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication from the top. Help teams understand the overall direction better, especially for big identity solutions projects. Transparency would go a long way.

Decent place, but culture can be rigid
Pros: As a Technical Support Specialist, the team in the Austin, Texas office is really solid. You learn a lot about access control and identity management systems here. It's a stable global tech company, which is good for job security.
Cons: The company culture can feel really corporate and slow to change for many roles. There's not much flexibility for hybrid work, especially for support roles, which is tough. Sometimes it feels like they don't trust employees to work remotely effectively.
Advice to Management: Loosen up on the remote work policies, especially for long-term employees. More trust in employees would really boost morale and help with talent retention.

Decent WLB, but be ready for crunch times
Pros: Work-life balance here is pretty decent most of the time, especially for a Software Engineer. I can usually stick to my 40-hour weeks. Remote work options are solid, which really helps manage personal stuff within this big tech company.
Cons: Project deadlines can be tough, though. You'll have some crazy crunch times when launching new identity solutions products. Career growth for senior engineering roles isn't always clear, which can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Try to balance project loads more evenly to avoid last-minute crunches. Invest more in clear career development paths for engineering teams.

Okay Balance, Tough Deadlines in Corporate Setup
Pros: I liked the decent hybrid work options, especially for software engineering roles in the Austin, TX office. It's usually possible to stick to a 40-hour week if you're good at setting boundaries.
Cons: However, project deadlines can get really intense, especially during big pushes for new identity solutions. The corporate environment means some things move slowly, then suddenly everything is urgent, hurting work-life balance.
Advice to Management: Management should really try to protect engineering teams from constant scope creep. Realistic planning helps a lot with employee morale and burnout.

Okay Culture, but Needs Modernizing
Pros: I've enjoyed the work for the most part, especially developing new identity management solutions. The hybrid work setup is solid, giving us good flexibility. It's nice not being chained to the Austin, TX office five days a week.
Cons: The culture often feels very corporate and a bit stuck in its ways, making it tough for new ideas to really take off. There's not much encouragement for risk-taking, which slows down innovation across the engineering teams.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more innovation and speed up internal processes. Listen more to the teams on the ground and empower them to make decisions.

Solid Pay, but Benefits Need Work Here
Pros: As a Software Engineer in their Austin, TX office, my base salary was pretty competitive. The 401k match is really solid, which is a big plus. It helps with long-term financial planning, you know?
Cons: Honestly, the health insurance plans felt too expensive, and the deductibles were high. For technical roles, annual raises just aren't keeping up with the market. It's tough to feel valued sometimes.
Advice to Management: Look at reducing health insurance costs for employees. Better annual raises would also help with retention for technical staff.

Decent job security for an enterprise company
Pros: As a Software Engineer, I felt pretty secure in my role at HID. The company is big and established in the identity and access management industry, which isn't as volatile as some other tech sectors. It's a solid corporate environment, so layoffs aren't a constant, immediate threat.
Cons: Even with decent job security, there's always that worry about internal reorgs or teams getting shifted around, especially for engineering roles. Some projects just seem to disappear, making you wonder about long-term opportunities. Internal mobility isn't super fast, which can make career growth feel a bit stagnant.
Advice to Management: Focus more on clear internal career paths and make project lifecycles more transparent for employees. Help people see a long-term future here beyond just staying in one role.

Solid hybrid model, but could be more flexible
Pros: I like the hybrid work model here. As a Software Engineer, I can split my time between the Irvine, CA office and working from home, which is good for my commute. It's nice not to be fully onsite every day.
Cons: Work flexibility can be team-dependent. Some teams have more strict in-office requirements than others. It's not truly remote-first, which can be tough sometimes if you need to be fully WFH for a few days.
Advice to Management: Standardize the hybrid policy across all departments and be clearer about remote work options.

Good Balance for Software Engineers in Austin
Pros: I've found the work-life balance for a Software Engineer here pretty decent. Most weeks are a consistent 40 hours. The hybrid model in our Austin, Texas office is a real plus for WFH days.
Cons: Sometimes during big sprints for new access control systems, things get a bit crazy. There are occasional after-hours calls because of global teams. It's not always easy to get last-minute time off.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage cross-timezone communications to avoid late-night pings. More flexibility on spontaneous personal time would be great.

Decent pay, but benefits need work at HID.
Pros: The base salary for a Software Engineer at HID was pretty solid, around $110k for my level. It's a decent spot if you're looking for stable pay in the identity solutions industry. You get paid well enough for your everyday expenses.
Cons: The benefits really aren't great. Healthcare coverage felt just okay, and the 401k match was kind of low compared to what I've seen elsewhere. There's not much flexibility for remote work either, mostly onsite or hybrid in the Austin, TX office.
Advice to Management: Look into improving the benefits package, especially healthcare and the 401k match. More flexibility for remote work would also help retain talent.
