Relationship Manager

It's a Big Corporate Bank, Leadership Is Mixed
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty solid for a global financial institution. You get good exposure to the banking industry, working with diverse clients. Plus, the hybrid work model was a lifesaver for balancing city life.
Cons: Leadership can be inconsistent across different teams. Sometimes you feel like a cog in a big machine, and getting clear direction as a Relationship Manager was tough. Career growth felt stalled unless you really pushed for it.
Advice to Management: Work on developing a more consistent leadership approach across departments. Empower team leads to make quicker decisions instead of waiting for upper management. Better communication on growth paths for Relationship Manager roles would help a lot.

Decent work-life balance for a big bank
Pros: For a large corporate bank like HSBC, the work-life balance isn't terrible, especially in the retail banking side. I got a solid hybrid work schedule in the New York City office. Most weeks, it's a pretty standard 40-45 hours.
Cons: Sometimes deadlines for financial reporting make it tough to log off on time. It's not uncommon for higher-ups in investment banking to expect longer hours from their teams. Career growth can feel a bit slow sometimes too.
Advice to Management: Managers should try to protect their teams' time, especially around major project deadlines. Encourage better boundaries across all departments, not just certain ones.

Okay for Analysts, but tough during busy seasons
Pros: Work-life balance can be decent most of the year as a Financial Analyst here. We often get solid benefits, typical for a large corporate banking environment. The hybrid work model in the NYC office is a plus; it helps a bit with commute stress.
Cons: But watch out for quarter-end and project deadlines. Those weeks are usually really long, like 60+ hours, sometimes more. Management often expects quick turnarounds, so it's hard to truly disconnect when you're always on call for global banking clients.
Advice to Management: Try to enforce better boundaries during peak times. We need more support to avoid burnout for junior staff in financial services.
