Work-Life Balance is Okay, Not Great for Engineers
Pros: The hybrid work model is a real plus; it helps a lot with personal appointments in San Francisco. My team is solid, and we generally get decent PTO, which I appreciate as a Software Engineer.
Cons: Expect long hours sometimes, especially when we're close to a big release in AI development. It's a mid-sized tech company, so the pressure can build up pretty fast, impacting our time off.
Advice to Management: Try to plan projects better to avoid crunch periods, especially for the core AI development teams. More realistic deadlines would go a long way.

Leadership is hit or miss here
Pros: The remote work flexibility is a big plus for a `startup`, which I really appreciated. Some of the tech leads are genuinely smart and great at `AI development`. My direct manager was mostly supportive when I was `working remotely`.
Cons: Upper management often feels out of touch with what's happening day-to-day, especially for `remote software engineers`. Important decisions just come down from the top without much real input. It can be hard to get clear direction on big projects.
Advice to Management: You should try to get more honest feedback from `remote employees` on their direct leadership. Make sure there's clearer communication around company decisions. Invest in training for middle managers on how to lead effectively in `AI development` roles.

Growth is tough for engineers in Austin
Pros: I've worked with some really smart people here, especially on the core robotics platforms and AI development. You get hands-on experience with some cutting-edge tech in this mid-sized tech company environment. There's a decent budget for learning tools if you push for it, which helps as a Software Engineer.
Cons: Career growth is definitely tough, especially for engineering roles trying to move up past a certain point. There isn't a super clear path for promotion or consistent mentorship. It feels like you need to actively seek out new projects to expand your skillset, and even then, upward mobility is slow.
Advice to Management: Build out more structured career paths and mentorship programs for your engineering teams. It would help a lot with retention and developing talent.
