Leadership can be a mixed bag here
Working at Applied Materials has its ups and downs, particularly regarding leadership. Some direct managers are great, but the higher-ups often seem out of touch with what's happening day-to-day for a Process Engineer in the semiconductor industry. Pay and benefits are good, but work-life balance can be tough.
Some senior managers in the Santa Clara, CA office are genuinely supportive. They've helped me grow as a Process Engineer, especially when learning new semiconductor manufacturing processes. You can find solid mentors if you look.
Upper leadership sometimes feels really disconnected from daily operations in the fab environment. Decisions often come down without much explanation, and it can be frustrating for those of us on the ground. There's not always clear communication.
Try to bridge the gap between executive decisions and the teams executing the work. More transparency and communication from senior leadership would really help morale. Understand the challenges faced by onsite employees in the fab.
