Okay benefits, but rigid work setup
I worked as a Process Engineer in the semiconductor industry at Applied Materials for a few years. It's a big tech company with decent pay. But, honestly, the work flexibility could be a lot better for most roles, especially if you're working with fab equipment in Santa Clara.
The compensation package is solid, and the health benefits are good. You get to work on some really interesting projects in the semiconductor industry. There's a lot of smart people around to learn from.
The onsite requirements are pretty strict. As a Process Engineer, you're expected in the office or fab a lot. The hybrid work model they push often feels like 4-5 days onsite. It's tough to balance personal stuff with the lack of remote flexibility.
Managers should truly embrace the hybrid model they advertise. Give teams more autonomy for remote work days, especially for non-fab-critical tasks. Trust your employees more with their schedules.
