Junior Software Developer

RM Technology: Okay, but watch for changes.
Pros: As a Junior Software Developer, I found the team in the Austin office really supportive. There's usually a new internal project you can jump on if your current one gets shelved, which helps with not being instantly jobless. The hybrid work environment is also a big plus for work-life balance.
Cons: The biggest issue is job security. This mid-sized tech company goes through reorgs way too often, and sometimes entire projects or teams just disappear with little warning. It really makes you second-guess your future here, especially for certain engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Please try to provide more transparency and stability regarding project roadmaps and team structures. The constant changes make it hard for employees to feel secure and plan their careers within the company.

Okay Hybrid Work, Could Be Better
Pros: The hybrid work model is decent. As a Software Engineer, I liked having a couple of remote days each week. It definitely helped cut down on my commute to the San Francisco office.
Cons: But those remote days aren't truly flexible. You're still expected to be online for very specific hours, which is pretty rigid. There's not much room to shift your schedule in this tech industry role, even for personal appointments.
Advice to Management: Managers should trust employees more with their schedules. Give Software Engineers real autonomy over their remote days instead of strict online hour expectations.

Decent Pay, But Don't Expect Bonuses
Pros: For a mid-sized tech company, the base salary as a Software Engineer is pretty good and competitive for the Austin, TX market. They've got a decent health insurance package too, and the 401k match starts up pretty quickly.
Cons: Bonuses aren't really a thing here, even for strong performers in software development roles. The PTO is less than what you'd find at bigger tech firms, and getting long vacation approvals can be a real hassle with our hybrid work setup. There are also no stock options, which is a bummer.
Advice to Management: Consider revamping the compensation structure for tech roles to include performance bonuses and some form of equity. Also, improve the PTO policy to make it more competitive for employee retention.
