Great place for design professionals to grow!
Pros: The company culture at MillerKnoll is genuinely collaborative and supportive, which is great for a Product Designer like me. I've had fantastic opportunities to work on exciting new furniture design projects and learn from experienced colleagues. There's a strong focus on innovative design and quality manufacturing, making it an inspiring place for design professionals in the industry. It's a stable company where you feel valued.
Cons: Sometimes, the internal approval processes can feel a bit slow, especially when you're really eager to push new furniture designs forward. While there are definitely career development paths, the promotion process can be a bit slower than I'd like, which is often the case with larger, established manufacturing and design firms.
Advice to Management: Streamline some of the internal approval processes to empower teams to move faster on innovative projects. Also, review the promotion tracks to ensure talented individuals feel their career progression is aligned with their contributions.

Decent work-life balance for designers in Zeeland
Pros: I've had a pretty solid work-life balance here as a Product Designer. Most weeks are a consistent 40 hours in the Zeeland, Michigan office, which is great. The hybrid work model helps a lot with personal appointments.
Cons: Sometimes project deadlines in the furniture design and manufacturing cycle can be brutal, especially for new product launches. It's tough to truly disconnect when you're pushing to get designs through. There's an expectation of being available even after hours during crunch times.
Advice to Management: Consider better staffing or more realistic timelines for critical project phases. It would really help reduce burnout among the design and engineering teams.

Leadership is pretty hit or miss here
Pros: I really liked my immediate team; they're supportive. The hybrid work model is a decent perk, offering some flexibility. Working from the Zeeland office, the collaboration with peers was a big plus.
Cons: Senior leadership often feels out of touch with what's happening on the ground. Communication can be a real issue, making it hard to understand overall company direction. This impacts career growth for operational roles like mine.
Advice to Management: Try to create more transparent communication from the top. Employees need a clearer understanding of strategic decisions and how they affect different departments. Engage with middle management more often.

Pay's Okay, Benefits Could Be Better
Pros: The base salary as a Senior Product Designer was decent, especially for the Zeeland, Michigan area. The health insurance options are solid, and the 401k match is pretty good for a corporate environment.
Cons: Annual raises are usually small; they barely keep up with inflation, which is tough. Bonuses aren't very generous, especially for individual contributors in furniture design, so they don't really motivate you.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the compensation structure for design roles. It's hard to retain top talent when pay increases are minimal. Consider better performance-based bonuses.

Hybrid Model is Decent, Still Room to Grow
Pros: I appreciate the official hybrid model, which allows for some work-from-home days, especially as a Sales Account Manager. It's a decent perk for a large corporate company in the commercial interiors space. Being able to skip the daily commute a couple of times a week helps with personal errands.
Cons: Despite the hybrid model, there's often pressure to be onsite more than the policy states. True work flexibility isn't always there when client meetings are always pushed to in-office. It can be tough to truly balance things when you're always expected at the Grand Rapids office.
Advice to Management: Seriously, stick to the stated hybrid policy and trust your teams. Empower managers to truly allow for flexibility, especially for roles like Sales Account Manager where a lot of work is client-facing or remote anyway. Don't make us feel guilty for WFH days.

Career Growth is Tough for Design Roles
Pros: I learned a lot about the furniture design process, especially working closely with manufacturing teams. The hybrid work model in the Zeeland, MI office was a decent perk, offering some flexibility. Benefits were pretty solid for a large corporate company.
Cons: It's really tough to move up, even as a Junior Industrial Designer. There aren't many clear paths for career progression here, so I felt stuck in my role. My salary growth also felt pretty stagnant, which was frustrating.
Advice to Management: Create clearer growth paths and invest more in internal promotions, especially for entry-level design talent. Make those opportunities more transparent.

Culture's Okay, But There Are Kinks
Pros: As a Supply Chain Analyst, I've worked with some really collaborative teams here. There's a decent emphasis on design heritage, which is cool for the furniture industry. Many folks in the Zeeland, Michigan office are genuinely invested.
Cons: Post-merger integration challenges really affect company culture. It's often slow to change, and some departments feel a bit siloed. Work-life balance for some manufacturing roles can be tough.
Advice to Management: Focus on truly integrating the different legacy cultures. Break down those departmental silos and speed up decision-making processes. Listen more to the teams on the ground, especially in manufacturing.

Good company, work-life can be a juggle
Pros: The hybrid work setup is a huge plus for me. It offers decent flexibility for Product Designers. Benefits are actually pretty good for a corporate environment.
Cons: Project deadlines in the furniture industry can get intense. Sometimes you just have to work late to meet them. It's not always a consistent 40-hour week.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project workloads to prevent constant crunch times. More predictability would really help.
