Manufacturing Engineer

Great Vision, Sometimes Disconnected Leadership
Pros: I loved working on actual rocket components; it's super cool to see a project go from CAD to actual rocket launches. The top leadership team, especially Peter Beck, has a strong, clear vision for the company's future in the aerospace industry. It feels good to be part of something big.
Cons: Middle management often feels stretched thin and doesn't always get the support they need from higher-ups. This makes things tough for us, as a Manufacturing Engineer, when production issues come up. Decision-making can be slow for day-to-day operations in the Long Beach office.
Advice to Management: Empower middle management more and give them the resources to make faster decisions. Improve communication channels between executive leadership and the operational teams, especially for onsite work at the production facilities.

Decent place for space, but pay could improve
Pros: The health benefits are actually quite good for a space startup. They offer solid medical and dental coverage, which I appreciate working onsite in Long Beach. The 401k match is also a decent perk.
Cons: The base salary for a Mechanical Engineer feels a bit low compared to the industry average. Don't expect huge bonuses or rapid pay raises here. It's tough to feel competitive when you know others in the aerospace industry are making more.
Advice to Management: Please review the compensation bands, especially for engineering roles. Better pay would help with talent retention.

Pay's okay, benefits could use a boost.
Pros: The base salary for a Manufacturing Engineer here in aerospace manufacturing is decent, especially for the Long Beach, CA area. You've got pretty good medical coverage too, which is a solid plus. The stock options are there, just not super generous.
Cons: I think the total compensation for more senior technical roles could be higher, honestly. Yearly raises are pretty small, so it's tough to keep up with inflation or market rates. The 401k match isn't super competitive either, compared to other mid-sized companies.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the total compensation packages, particularly for experienced technical talent in the space industry. Better stock options or more substantial annual raises would help a lot with retention and attracting top talent. Also, consider improving the 401k match.

Good entry point, but career growth can stall.
Pros: It's a fantastic spot for new grads to dive into the space industry. As a Propulsion Engineer, you get real hands-on experience with satellite manufacturing and space launch services. The Long Beach office has a lot of smart, dedicated people.
Cons: Career growth here can feel pretty slow after a couple of years. There aren't many clear paths to advance for individual contributors. Moving up or even switching teams within aerospace engineering roles can be hard.
Advice to Management: Please create more defined career ladders for technical roles, not just management. It would really help retention for senior engineers.

Demanding but rewarding mission
Pros: Getting to work on actual rockets is incredible. The projects are cutting-edge for the space industry. There's a lot of smart people here, and you learn tons, especially as an aerospace engineer. The Long Beach office has good facilities.
Cons: Work-life balance is a real challenge, especially for hardware engineering roles. Expect more than 40-hour weeks consistently; 50-60 isn't rare. It's tough to make plans outside of work sometimes. Flexibility is pretty limited since it's onsite work.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to support work-life balance more, especially for engineers. Mandating less weekend work or offering more flexible hours could help with burnout. It's a growing company, but people need downtime.

Tough but rewarding work, leadership has issues
Pros: I really liked the technical challenges. As a Propulsion Engineer, I got to work on cutting-edge rocket manufacturing projects. The team in the Long Beach, CA office is super smart and dedicated. We built some cool stuff.
Cons: Leadership can be pretty disconnected from day-to-day engineering work. There's often a lack of clear direction, which slows down development cycles. Decisions sometimes felt arbitrary and not well communicated to the teams on the ground.
Advice to Management: Management needs to listen more to their engineering teams. Improve communication pathways and empower mid-level managers. Make decisions based on technical feasibility and clear strategy, not just aggressive timelines.

Exciting Mission, Demanding Pace, Okay Culture
Pros: Getting to work on actual rockets for satellite launch is genuinely cool. You're building something tangible. The teams are usually pretty sharp, especially for Manufacturing Engineer roles.
Cons: The company culture feels a bit inconsistent. Communication from the top can be unclear, which is frustrating. Also, work-life balance isn't great; expect plenty of onsite hours in the Long Beach, CA office.
Advice to Management: Try to improve internal communication channels. More transparency helps everyone. Also, consider the long-term impact of requiring constant overtime on employee morale and retention.

Okay for a start, but growth is slow.
Pros: You learn a ton right away, especially about satellite manufacturing and small launch vehicles. It's a solid entry point for a new engineer in the space industry. There's good exposure to different projects and technologies, which is valuable for your resume.
Cons: Career progression here feels pretty limited for technical roles. Promotions don't come easy, and I didn't see many clear paths to advance. You might get stuck at your current level for a while without a lot of opportunities to take on senior responsibilities within this growing company.
Advice to Management: Management needs to create clearer career ladders and development programs for their engineers. Give employees more opportunities for internal promotion and skill development. It would help retain talent in the Long Beach office.

Decent for Space Industry, Job Security is Mixed
Pros: Being part of the space industry is really cool, working on Electron rocket components. You learn a ton fast as an aerospace engineer. The team is passionate, and it's exciting work at a growing company.
Cons: Job security can feel pretty unstable sometimes. Project priorities for the Long Beach office change quickly. It makes you wonder about the long-term plan in this startup environment.
Advice to Management: Try to provide more transparency on project lifecycles and potential impacts on roles. It'd really help ease concerns about job security, especially when things shift rapidly.

Decent flexibility if you're onsite in Long Beach
Pros: You get some flexibility for appointments, which is good. My team in the Long Beach office has a decent hybrid model sometimes. It's not a strict 9-5 if you manage your tasks as a Software Engineer.
Cons: Full remote options are pretty rare for engineering roles, especially for rocket development. It's mostly an onsite or hybrid role, which can be tough. The official policy feels a bit behind modern standards.
Advice to Management: Consider more flexible work arrangements for roles that don't absolutely require constant onsite presence. It could help with retention for Software Engineer positions.
