WLB is okay, but can be tough sometimes
Pros: The hybrid model is pretty solid for the NYC office, giving us decent flexibility to work from home a few days a week. It definitely helps avoid that crazy commute and provides some personal time. It's not a strict 40-hour week, but generally manageable.
Cons: The biggest issue is when project deadlines for new cybersecurity features hit; it's common to have longer hours then. Especially around release cycles, you feel pressured to be "always on" in this data security space. It can be hard to disconnect.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project loads and set more realistic timelines, especially for critical cybersecurity updates. It would really help prevent burnout among the engineering teams and improve overall work-life balance.

Solid Varonis Role, Cybersecurity Industry Stable
Pros: The cybersecurity industry itself is very stable, which made me feel secure as a Software Engineer. There's constant demand for data security solutions, so project work never really dried up. Being able to work remote from Texas was a huge plus too.
Cons: We had a few unexpected reorgs that made me wonder about my position, even with consistent projects. The communication from leadership could be clearer during these times, making job security feel a bit shaky sometimes. For a mid-sized tech company, internal mobility isn't always obvious.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication during reorgs and build out more defined career paths for technical roles. This would really help with employee retention and ease concerns about job stability.

Stable Cybersecurity Job, Decent Work Here
Pros: The job security at Varonis feels really solid. As a Software Engineer specializing in data security, I've seen steady demand, even when the tech market was rocky. Our hybrid work setup from the New York City office is also a perk.
Cons: Career growth for some Software Engineer roles can feel a bit slow sometimes. It's not always easy to move up quickly or get truly fresh challenges. Pay isn't the absolute highest in the cybersecurity industry, but it's fair.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer paths for internal promotion and make sure compensation stays competitive with the broader cybersecurity market.

Decent Pay, Room for Benefit Improvement
Pros: The base salary for a Sales Engineer is pretty competitive within the cybersecurity industry. You get a solid 401k match, which is definitely a plus. Healthcare plans are also pretty standard and get the job done.
Cons: The bonus structure can feel a bit opaque sometimes, making it tough to hit targets reliably. Other benefits, like parental leave or PTO, feel just okay, not amazing compared to other tech companies. It feels like there's room for improvement here.
Advice to Management: Clarify the bonus targets and commission structures to make them more predictable. Look into enhancing benefits like parental leave or offering more competitive PTO. Small improvements could make a big difference for employee retention.

Decent place for entry-level cybersecurity careers
Pros: I got tons of hands-on experience with threat detection tools and data security platforms as a Junior Security Engineer. The hybrid work model in the Atlanta office was pretty good; it offered flexibility. You learn a lot if you're proactive and seek out opportunities.
Cons: Formal career growth paths felt unclear for cybersecurity roles; it wasn't always obvious how to advance. Promotions seemed to take a while, and mentorship wasn't always consistent. Sometimes, it felt like there wasn't a lot of focus on developing specific skills for future roles.
Advice to Management: Focus more on clearly defined career growth plans for all roles, especially for junior employees in cybersecurity. Consistent mentorship programs would really help people understand how to move up.

Solid job security in data security
Pros: The company's core business in data security and analytics is pretty solid. They've got an established client base for their cybersecurity solutions. As a Sales Engineer in the New York City office, I generally felt secure in my role.
Cons: It's a competitive SaaS market, so there's always pressure to perform. Career growth can feel slow sometimes, especially if you're not in a top-performing sales role. Leadership tends to change strategies a bit too often.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer long-term vision and less frequent strategy shifts. Invest more in internal career development paths for engineering and sales roles.

Decent Work-Life for a Software Engineer
Pros: I've had decent work-life balance here as a Software Engineer. The hybrid work model helps a lot, letting me avoid the commute some days. My team is pretty good about respecting after-hours, which is nice in the cybersecurity industry.
Cons: Sometimes there's pressure to hit deadlines, especially near end-of-quarter. It means longer days, and I've seen some weekend work. Meetings can sometimes bleed into evenings, which cuts into personal time if you're working remote from a different time zone.
Advice to Management: Management should try to ensure work-life balance is consistent across all teams. Better project planning would help avoid those crunch times, especially in the core engineering roles.

Culture's okay, but it's changing
Pros: For a Software Engineer in the NYC office, the initial culture was really solid. We had good team events and the hybrid work setup was a big plus. There was a strong sense of collaboration in the cybersecurity industry here.
Cons: Lately, it feels like the company culture is shifting towards more pressure and less appreciation. The team spirit? It's definitely taken a hit. It's not as collaborative as it used to be, and that's tough.
Advice to Management: Management needs to reconnect with what made the culture great, especially for us engineers. Bring back the focus on collaboration and appreciation, and ease up on the constant pressure.
