Field Service Engineer

Pay is decent, but benefits could improve.
Pros: As a Field Service Engineer, the base salary is pretty solid. They do offer good mileage reimbursement for all the travel involved in food packaging equipment installations and maintenance. The 401k match is also decent for a big corporate company.
Cons: Dental and vision benefits aren't great, feels like you pay a lot for not much coverage. Healthcare premiums seem to go up every year, making it tough to see the value. There aren't many extra perks or bonuses beyond the standard stuff, especially for those of us working remotely across different client sites.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the healthcare and dental plans to offer better coverage for employees. Consider introducing performance bonuses for Field Service Engineers who consistently exceed targets, not just standard annual increases.

Decent place for packaging pros, but expect busy times.
Pros: You've got solid benefits and job security in this big corporate environment. As a Packaging Engineer, I generally had predictable 40-hour weeks. The hybrid work setup in the Denton, Texas office was a plus for my work-life balance.
Cons: Sometimes project deadlines for new food processing equipment got intense. It's tough to take PTO during those crunch times when we're focused on packaging solutions. Not much flexibility when things got really busy, which impacts personal time.
Advice to Management: Try to staff projects better to avoid burnout, especially for key roles like Packaging Engineers. Encourage taking time off even when it's busy; it's crucial for employee well-being.

Good team, but work-life balance varies
Pros: The people are generally great; you'll find a lot of support within your immediate team. For Process Engineer roles, there's often flexibility to work from home a couple of days a week, which helps. The Denton, TX office facilities are solid, too.
Cons: Work-life balance can get tough, especially during critical phases of projects in the packaging industry. It's not uncommon to put in long hours to hit deadlines, and sometimes it feels like management expects that. It's hard to truly disconnect after hours.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scopes and timelines to reduce the need for constant overtime. Support teams in protecting their personal time more effectively, especially after standard hours. Recognize that a truly flexible environment means respecting boundaries.
