Decent for Stability, Not Much Upward Motion
Pros: There's solid job security here, especially if you're working on their ERP software for government contracting clients. The remote work setup from Austin, TX is really convenient. I generally stick to a 40-hour week as a Software Engineer, so work-life balance is pretty good.
Cons: Career growth is pretty stagnant for engineering roles. There aren't many clear paths to move into more senior technical roles quickly. We also tend to stick with older tech stacks, which makes skill development for the broader software development industry tough.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer career ladders for technical roles. Invest in training for newer technologies to keep engineers engaged and competitive in the tech industry.

Work-Life Can Be Okay at Deltek
Pros: The hybrid work model is a huge plus for me; it lets me WFH a couple of days a week. As a Software Engineer, I generally hit my 40 hours, which is good for personal commitments. There's some decent flexibility if you manage your projects well.
Cons: But sometimes deadlines for our enterprise solutions mean longer days, especially close to a release. It can be tough to consistently maintain a perfect work-life balance when these big GovCon projects ramp up. You can't always just log off right at 5.
Advice to Management: Try to set more realistic deadlines for engineering teams to help reduce crunch times. Consistent communication about project scope changes would also help us plan better.

Solid Benefits, Pay is Okay for Industry
Pros: The health benefits package is really solid, with good medical and dental coverage. There's also a decent 401k match, which is a big plus for a remote Technical Consultant like me. PTO is pretty generous too, which helps with work-life balance.
Cons: Salary progression isn't the fastest; raises can feel a bit small year-to-year. If you're comparing to big tech compensation, it's definitely not on that level. Bonuses aren't huge either, especially for mid-level roles in enterprise software.
Advice to Management: Consider reviewing salary bands more frequently to stay competitive with the broader enterprise software market. Investing more in clear career progression paths and associated compensation increases would really help with retention for folks in technical roles.
