Decent bank, but career path can be a grind
Pros: The pay is competitive for the financial services industry in Toronto. I've gained solid experience with various capital markets products. Plus, the hybrid work model is a big win for work-life balance.
Cons: Career growth for an analyst often feels stuck after a couple of years. It's tough to move up internally, even as a Financial Analyst. You really have to fight for new opportunities here in the Toronto office.
Advice to Management: Upper management needs to review internal promotion paths. It's frustrating when you see people leave to get the next step in their banking careers. Invest more in developing junior talent for these financial services roles.

Decent for a Bank, but Expect Busy Times
Pros: I've found the hybrid work model really helps my work-life balance here. As a Financial Analyst, I can usually WFH 2-3 days a week, which is a big plus for a large corporate bank. My team in the Toronto office is generally supportive too.
Cons: Quarter-end is always a crunch, and those weeks are tough. It's common for finance roles in the financial services industry to have longer hours then, but it can still be draining. Sometimes you just can't disconnect.
Advice to Management: Acknowledge the crunch periods more directly and explore ways to alleviate pressure on junior staff during these times. Maybe more structured post-deadline recovery time.

Solid Start, But Growth Can Be A Grind
Pros: BMO offers really good internal training programs, which is a huge plus for junior finance roles. I've seen people successfully move across different departments within the financial services industry. It's a great resume builder if you're just starting out.
Cons: Promotions for Financial Analysts can feel super slow here. There's a lot of internal competition, and getting noticed in a big organization takes time. The career path isn't always clear, even for high performers in the Toronto office.
Advice to Management: Management should work on making career progression more transparent for roles like Financial Analyst. More mentorship programs would help junior staff navigate the large corporate structure. Also, provide clearer pathways for advancement.
