Good remote options for tech roles.
Pros: They're pretty good with remote work, which was a huge plus for me as a software engineer. It helped a lot with my daily routine and personal life. The setup for working from home is solid.
Cons: Even with the flexibility, project deadlines for game development often meant long hours. It was tough to really disconnect sometimes, making work-life balance a challenge.
Advice to Management: Try to manage project scopes better. More realistic timelines would really improve employee well-being and reduce crunch.

Leadership is a Mixed Bag at Skillz
Pros: Some of the direct managers really try to shield their teams from executive churn. For a tech startup, the base pay and benefits are pretty solid. You get to work on interesting challenges within the mobile gaming industry.
Cons: Upper leadership decisions often feel disconnected from reality. There's a lack of clear strategy, which makes things confusing for us Software Engineers. It's tough to see a consistent vision from the San Francisco, CA office leadership.
Advice to Management: Top leadership needs to be more present and transparent. Communicate your strategy clearly, and don't just spring big changes on us. Empower mid-level managers to lead their teams.

Tough to grow if you're not a senior engineer.
Pros: The **mobile gaming industry** is cool, and the tech stack is decent for a **startup**. I learned a lot about scaling for real-time multiplayer. The **remote work** setup from Austin was pretty flexible, which helped with personal stuff.
Cons: As a **software engineer**, there isn't much of a clear path for advancement. It felt like you needed to be a senior or principal to get noticed. Career development just wasn't a priority, making it hard to move up.
Advice to Management: Create clearer career development paths for individual contributors, not just management. Invest in mentorship programs for mid-level engineers.

Fast-paced Startup with Culture Challenges
Pros: The team is super smart and collaborative. Everyone's really into the mobile gaming platform. It's cool being at a startup where your work matters. I've been working remote from Texas, which is a huge plus for flexibility.
Cons: But the culture can be intense. There's a lot of pressure, making work-life balance tough, especially for Software Engineer roles. Management often pushes for speed, which can lead to burnout.
Advice to Management: Please think more about employee well-being. The constant push for speed isn't sustainable long-term. Better policies for work-life balance would help retain talent in tech roles.

Pay is Decent, Benefits are Just Okay
Pros: The base salary for a Software Engineer in the mobile gaming space is pretty solid, especially for San Francisco. Stock options were a nice perk for a tech startup, offering some upside potential.
Cons: The healthcare benefits weren't great, honestly. It felt like the plans were pretty basic compared to other tech companies. Also, raises and bonuses for engineers weren't super frequent or transparent.
Advice to Management: Review the benefits package, especially healthcare options, to be more competitive. Also, establishing clearer paths for raises and performance-based bonuses would help retain good talent in the game development sector.
