Leadership has some good ideas, but execution needs work
Pros: As a Financial Analyst, I actually liked the product; it's solid corporate performance management software. The engineering teams here really do some cool stuff. Plus, being able to do remote work from anywhere was a huge perk for me.
Cons: Leadership struggled with consistent communication, especially on big strategy changes. It felt like they shifted direction too often, which made things tough for my team. Sometimes, management didn't fully grasp the day-to-day for Financial Analyst roles, making project planning tricky.
Advice to Management: Try to set a clearer, more stable vision. Consistent communication from leadership would really help people understand where the company is headed. Also, listen more to the folks actually doing the work.

Solid company culture, but needs some work.
Pros: The team camaraderie is great here; you'll find supportive colleagues as a Software Engineer. We often do social events, which helps with bonding in the Toronto office. It's a pretty collaborative environment overall.
Cons: Sometimes the management feels a bit disconnected from daily operations. It can be tough to get clear decisions or see the bigger picture, which impacts transparency. Career paths aren't always super clear for individual contributors.
Advice to Management: Try to be more visible and transparent with the teams, especially regarding company direction and career development for engineering roles. Clearer communication would go a long way.

Tough to grow as a consultant at Vena
Pros: I've learned a lot about different industries and advanced financial modeling techniques. The teams are generally solid, and you get decent exposure to our CPM software for clients. It's a good spot to gain SaaS experience.
Cons: The career growth path for an Implementation Consultant isn't really clear. It's hard to move beyond consultant roles, and transitioning into product or other departments feels pretty blocked. Promotion opportunities feel slow in the Toronto office.
Advice to Management: Please make the career paths for Implementation Consultants clearer. It would really help with retention if there were more opportunities to grow into senior roles or switch departments within this mid-sized tech company.

Leadership's okay, but really needs work
Pros: Some of the direct managers at Vena are really solid. They actually care about project success and your development as a Software Engineer in the SaaS industry. You can learn a lot from your peers in the Toronto office too.
Cons: Higher leadership struggles with giving clear direction for FP&A software initiatives. It's tough to know what's truly a priority. This lack of clarity often adds to project delays and team frustration.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication and setting realistic goals from the executive level. Your direct managers are good, but they need better guidance from the top. Invest in leadership training for senior roles.

Decent place for Project Managers, but growth needs work
Pros: Working here as a Junior Project Manager, I got to jump on several different client projects quickly. It was great for learning about the EPM software industry and financial planning solutions. The team is supportive, and you can learn a lot by just asking questions and observing senior folks in the Toronto office.
Cons: Career growth isn't super structured for project management roles here. There aren't many clear paths to move up, and I didn't see many formal mentorship programs or training sessions. It feels like you have to really push for opportunities, and they aren't always available, especially for those working in a hybrid model.
Advice to Management: You should really focus on creating clearer career pathways for Junior Project Managers and other roles. Formal mentorship programs would help a lot, and more structured training could really boost employee development and retention.

Job security feels okay, but tech is volatile.
Pros: For a mid-sized tech company, there's decent stability if you're a core contributor. They don't do mass layoffs often, which is good. My team in the Toronto office always felt pretty secure for Software Engineer roles.
Cons: Still, it's the FP&A software industry. Things can shift quickly with market demands. You can't always count on long-term project stability, especially if product priorities change. I've seen some teams get restructured.
Advice to Management: Keep communicating openly about company direction and potential impacts on teams. Transparency helps with job security concerns.
