Solid Foundation for a Banking Career
Pros: I've really enjoyed my time at CIMB Singapore as an Analyst in Retail Banking. It's a stable and reputable financial services company here in Singapore. The team environment is supportive, and I've learned a ton about banking operations and customer service. There are good opportunities to develop your skills, especially early in your career.
Cons: Sometimes the pace of career progression, especially promotions, can feel a bit slow compared to some other industries. Also, being a large bank, there's a fair amount of corporate red tape and approval processes.
Advice to Management: Consider streamlining some of the internal approval processes and look for ways to accelerate career progression paths for dedicated employees.

Solid Growth for Financial Analysts, Great Flexibility
Pros: CIMB Singapore offers a really supportive environment, which has been fantastic for me as a junior Financial Analyst in the banking industry. I've learned so much from my colleagues. The hybrid work arrangement is a huge plus, giving me the flexibility I need. It's a stable regional bank, and I appreciate the consistent company culture here. Great for career development in financial services.
Cons: The main drawback is that career progression and the promotion process can feel a bit slow sometimes compared to larger financial institutions. Also, internal approval processes can occasionally be bureaucratic, which can delay projects. While the pay isn't top-tier, it's competitive for a regional bank in Singapore, but could be better. Don't expect huge bonuses.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining some of the internal approval processes to boost efficiency and consider reviewing the career progression pathways to make them clearer and potentially faster for high-performing employees.

Decent Work-Life, Can Be Demanding for Banking
Pros: You generally get your weekends free, which is nice. For an Associate in retail banking, the daily hours are usually manageable, often 9 to 6. They do try to promote some wellness activities.
Cons: Sometimes, there's pressure to stay late for urgent tasks, especially towards month-end. It's mostly onsite work in the Singapore office, so commute time adds up. Don't expect much flexibility for personal appointments during the week.

Decent pay, but bonuses aren't great
Pros: The base salary for an Associate Relationship Manager is decent, especially when you're just starting out in banking. You get standard health benefits and a pretty solid annual leave package here in Singapore. It's a stable corporate bank environment.
Cons: Bonuses aren't as competitive as at other financial services firms in the Singapore market, which is a real bummer. Variable compensation often feels capped, even if you hit all your targets. It's tough to see significant pay increases without jumping roles or companies.
Advice to Management: Review the variable compensation structure to make it more competitive with other banks in the Singapore financial sector. It's tough to retain top talent when bonuses feel restricted.

Work-life balance is tough in corporate banking
Pros: You'll learn a lot working in the Singapore office, especially in corporate banking. The team is generally supportive, which helps when deadlines are tight. They do have decent holiday benefits once you earn them.
Cons: Work-life balance as a Relationship Manager is definitely a struggle. Expect really long hours and sometimes weekend work, especially during month-end or project cycles. It's tough to maintain personal life when client demands are constant.
Advice to Management: Management should try to enforce better boundaries for client expectations and perhaps look into staffing models. It's hard to prevent burnout when the pressure is always on for Relationship Manager roles.

Leadership is hit or miss in Singapore office
Pros: Some managers are genuinely supportive here. Especially if you're new to the financial services industry, they try to give guidance. It's a big corporate bank, so there's a lot of structure, which can be okay.
Cons: Leadership can feel really disconnected from day-to-day work. This is especially true for Relationship Manager roles. Decisions often come down from higher-ups without much context. There's not a lot of transparency from the top, making the Singapore office feel a bit out of sync sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to be more visible and transparent with your teams. Listen to the ground staff in the Singapore office, especially those in client-facing financial services roles. Better communication would go a long way.

Decent pay, but work-life balance is tough
Pros: You learn a ton, especially if you're new to the financial services industry. The pay and benefits are pretty good for banking roles. There's good exposure to regional markets working at this corporate bank.
Cons: Work-life balance really suffers. Expect long hours, often 10-12 hours daily, as a Relationship Manager. Weekend work isn't uncommon, and it's mostly onsite in the Singapore office, so no WFH flexibility.
Advice to Management: Management needs to address the long hours, especially for Relationship Managers. More resources or better workload distribution would really help improve morale and reduce burnout in the Singapore office.

Pay is Decent, Benefits are Just Standard
Pros: As a Relationship Manager, the base salary was pretty decent for the Singapore banking industry. They pay competitively enough to attract talent in corporate banking roles. You'll get your standard medical benefits and annual leave package.
Cons: Bonuses aren't as competitive as bigger banks in the Raffles Place office. The overall benefits package is just okay, nothing really stands out or feels like a perk. Don't expect huge raises unless you switch departments.

Okay for starting out in banking, then slows down
Pros: It's a solid place to learn the ropes in financial services. For junior banking roles, you get decent exposure to corporate banking products. There are opportunities if you're fresh, especially working in the Singapore office.
Cons: Career growth here just isn't very clear after a few years. It's tough to move up internally unless someone leaves, so you often need to look outside. Promotions for Relationship Managers feel super slow.
Advice to Management: Management really needs to create clearer career paths and improve internal mobility programs. It would help retain talent if there was more transparency on promotions.

Okay culture, but lots of hierarchy.
Pros: I met some really great colleagues. They make the daily grind in retail banking much better. There's a decent focus on teamwork within individual departments.
Cons: The company culture feels pretty traditional. New ideas aren't always welcomed by senior leadership. It's tough as an analyst to make changes.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the younger employees. Update processes to keep up with industry changes. Empower teams more at the lower levels.
