Work-life balance is tough in heavy industry
Pros: The team is solid; you'll work with some really experienced people. For Project Engineer roles, you learn a ton about heavy industry projects. Pay and benefits are pretty decent, which helps make up for the hours.
Cons: Work-life balance here is a challenge. Expect to put in 50-60 hour weeks regularly, especially on tight deadlines in the Perth office. Weekend work isn't uncommon, and true remote work isn't really an option for my role.
Advice to Management: Try to empower project leads to better manage workloads and protect team weekends. More strategic planning could prevent last-minute rushes.

Good vibes for site-based engineering roles
Pros: The teams are genuinely good here. As a Project Engineer, I felt really supported by my direct colleagues on construction projects. There's a strong emphasis on getting the job done together, and the onsite crews usually have a solid camaraderie.
Cons: Sometimes the corporate side feels a bit disconnected from the ground level work. Decision-making can be slow, which impacts project timelines. The company culture could use more open feedback channels between different levels.
Advice to Management: Try to bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the day-to-day realities of construction projects. More regular, honest communication would really help overall company culture.

Flexibility is Okay, Very Project-Dependent
Pros: For Project Coordinator roles, some managers were pretty understanding. If your site was running smoothly, you could sometimes shift your hours. There were some decent hybrid options available, especially for those not always onsite.
Cons: Work flexibility often felt really limited by project demands. Being onsite in the construction industry meant strict hours. It's tough to adjust things when deadlines hit, particularly within Perth operations.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize flexibility policies across all projects and teams. It shouldn't depend so much on individual managers' discretion. This would really help onsite Project Coordinators.
