Stable Tech Company with Great Team Environment
Pros: I've really enjoyed my time at Barco as a Software Engineer. The team here is incredibly supportive, and I've learned a ton working on various display and visualization technology projects. It's a stable company in the pro AV industry, which makes for a pretty predictable environment. The work is challenging but rewarding, and colleagues are always willing to help out, which is great for a tech professional.
Cons: While it's a great place to learn, the career growth path can sometimes feel a bit slow, especially for engineers looking to move up quickly. Promotion opportunities don't come around as often as I'd hoped, and the approval processes for new initiatives can occasionally be a bit bureaucratic. It's not a deal-breaker, but something to be aware of if you're aiming for rapid advancement.
Advice to Management: Consider streamlining the promotion process and provide clearer roadmaps for career progression for your engineering teams. More transparent communication around new initiatives could also help.

Job security feels pretty solid at Barco
Pros: The company is pretty big in AV technology, so it feels stable. As a Technical Support Specialist, I haven't seen major layoffs, and the Knoxville office seems secure. Benefits are decent.
Cons: Growth can be slow sometimes; it's a large corporate structure. New initiatives don't always create many new roles, so moving up internally takes time. Don't expect rapid promotions.
Advice to Management: Try to create more clear paths for internal career progression, especially for roles like Technical Support Specialist. It would help with employee retention and motivation.

Work-Life Balance is Okay, But Varies
Pros: It's nice that Barco offers hybrid work options, which really helps balance personal life and work, especially for us in `AV solutions`. The PTO policy is pretty solid too, not amazing but fair. I appreciate the `work flexibility` when I can get it.
Cons: As a `Software Engineer` working on `enterprise technology`, sometimes project deadlines for new `visualisation products` can get pretty intense. There's definitely pressure to put in extra hours, especially close to release dates. It makes maintaining that desired `work-life balance` tough.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage workloads, especially for `R&D teams` in `display technology`. Setting more realistic timelines would help prevent burnout and improve overall `work-life balance` for everyone.

Career growth is tough for technical roles.
Pros: It's a stable, established corporate company with good benefits. The hybrid model offers some flexibility, which is nice. You work on cool display technology and AV solutions, which is interesting.
Cons: Career growth for technical roles, especially as a Software Engineer, is slow. There's not much upward mobility in the Alpharetta office. Internal training programs are limited, so you have to drive your own development.
Advice to Management: Invest more in structured career paths and development programs for technical staff. Encourage cross-functional projects to give engineers broader experience.

Leadership at Barco: Some Good, Some Not So Much
Pros: My direct manager in the Atlanta, GA office was super supportive. They genuinely cared about my development as a Product Manager. We also get to work on some genuinely innovative display technology.
Cons: Upper leadership can feel pretty distant from daily operations. It's frustrating when strategic decisions for new AV solutions take ages. There's not always a clear, consistent vision from the top.
Advice to Management: Try to be more present and provide clearer direction from the top. Listen to the Product Managers and engineers on the ground. A more unified strategy for our display technology would help everyone.
