Leadership is kinda hit or miss
Pros: The team I worked with in the San Juan, PR office was great, super collaborative. For Software Engineer roles, there's always interesting financial technology projects to tackle, which keeps things from getting boring. Pay and benefits are pretty decent for the industry.
Cons: Leadership often feels disconnected from the day-to-day work. Decisions can take forever, and sometimes they change direction without much warning, which is tough for project planning. There's not a lot of clear vision from the top, which impacts morale for us in corporate tech.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with decisions and provide clearer direction. Engaging with project teams more often would really help bridge the gap between management and employees in financial technology.

Long Hours Can Be Tough for Tech Roles
Pros: You do get to tackle some pretty complex challenges in payment processing, which is good for learning. The core team members are generally helpful and supportive, and it's a stable corporate environment. Plus, the health benefits are solid.
Cons: But honestly, the work-life balance for Software Developer roles is a big challenge. Expect to regularly work late, especially when there are tight deadlines in this fast-paced FinTech industry. It feels like 50+ hour weeks are the norm in the San Juan office, and true work flexibility isn't really there.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scopes and deadlines so that Software Developers aren't constantly working overtime. Invest more in staffing to balance the workload across the FinTech teams.

Job Security is Solid for Analysts
Pros: It's a big, established corporate company in the payment processing industry, so job security is pretty decent. As a Financial Analyst in the San Juan office, I didn't really worry about sudden layoffs or anything like that. It feels stable.
Cons: While job security is good, growth can feel slow sometimes. There's not always a clear path up, which makes things a bit stagnant even if your job is safe. You might need to wait a while for a promotion or new opportunities.
Advice to Management: Focus more on clear career progression paths for employees. It would help with motivation and retaining talent if growth wasn't so slow.

Okay for a Start, But Growth is Hard Here
Pros: As a Software Engineer, it's a decent place to get your foot in the door, especially if you're new to the fintech industry. The benefits package is pretty standard for a big corporate company in San Juan, Puerto Rico. You can learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: The big issue is definitely career growth. It's super tough to move up internally. Seems like they always bring in external hires for senior roles instead of promoting from within. You can get stuck in the same spot for years here, no clear path forward.
Advice to Management: Seriously focus on developing and promoting internal talent. Create clearer pathways for career progression for your current employees. It would boost morale and retention a lot.

Hybrid Work is Decent for Tech Roles
Pros: The hybrid work option is a real plus, especially for us software engineer roles. I get to work remotely a few days each week, which helps a lot with the commute in San Juan, PR. It gives a decent work-life balance.
Cons: But true flexibility isn't always there for shifting your daily hours. Some weeks, on-site days are mandatory for payment processing teams, with no wiggle room. It's tough if you have last-minute appointments or family needs.
Advice to Management: Offer more flexibility for shifting hours and consider more remote options for specific roles, especially when not directly working on sensitive payment processing systems.

Evertec Culture is Okay, Could Be Better
Pros: I've met some really solid people working here as a Software Engineer. The San Juan, PR office often has team dinners, which is a nice perk. It's a stable corporate environment in the payment processing industry.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit old-school and rigid at times. There's not much encouragement for new ideas or shaking things up. It's tough to get leadership to really listen to feedback.
Advice to Management: Try to be more open to innovation and fresh perspectives from employees. Encourage a culture where feedback isn't just heard, but acted upon.
