Work-Life Balance is Decent, But Can Be Tough
Pros: You do get some flexibility with the hybrid work setup, which is nice for a big tech company. Most managers try to respect boundaries, and generally, there isn't extreme pressure about hours unless there's a big deadline.
Cons: Project crunch times are pretty brutal; I've definitely put in 50+ hour weeks then. There's an expectation for Software Engineer roles to be 'always on' sometimes, which can chip away at personal time and makes consistent 40-hour weeks tough.
Advice to Management: Try to even out project loads better so we don't have such extreme crunch periods. Consistent 40-hour weeks would really boost morale and prevent burnout for engineering teams.

Solid Job Security for Remote Software Engineers
Pros: Job security here is honestly one of the best things. As a Software Engineer working fully remote, I don't worry about layoffs much. It's a mid-sized company with stable enterprise software clients.
Cons: On the flip side, career growth for tech roles can be slow. Promotions don't happen often, and sometimes projects feel a bit dated. There's not always clear path for junior developers.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer career development paths for engineering roles, especially for those in backend development. Try to bring in more innovative projects to keep people engaged.

Work-Life Balance Can Be a Real Struggle Here
Pros: I've learned a lot in software development here. The tech stack is modern and interesting. There's some flexibility in hours when you're not on a critical sprint, which is nice for a hybrid work model.
Cons: The work-life balance is pretty rough for many Software Engineer roles. Expect 50-60 hour weeks frequently. It's hard to disconnect, even working remote from Austin sometimes. Agile sprints often mean late nights to meet deadlines.
Advice to Management: Seriously re-evaluate project timelines and resource allocation. More realistic expectations for software development sprints would help prevent burnout for the engineering team.
